A quintessential LBJ (little brown job), pīpipi are sweet songsters found in the forest canopy. They are sociable wee birds, forming flocks up to 60-strong. Anyone can join the pīpipi party: silvereyes, fantails, grey warblers and fantails are all known to hang out in the brown creeper flock. And if you're a long-tailed cuckoo, the pīpipi will even raise your chicks for you!

The pīpipi should be your vote for Bird of the Year in 2024! She's tiny, fluffy, and loves to sing – who could ask for anything more?? Pīpipi are also known as the brown creeper or the New Zealand titmouse. Fun fact: pīpipi can use UV rays to detect parasitic cuckoo eggs in their nests!
